The Endocrine Society Award for Excellence in Science and Medical Journalism - Submission Requirements

The Endocrine Society Award for Excellence in Science and Medical Journalism honors journalists for outstanding reporting that enhances public understanding of medical and science issues pertaining to the field of endocrinology.

Eligibility and Submission Requirements

The award is open to all credentialed journalists in print (both “hard” and electronic) or broadcast. Candidates can self-nominate or be nominated by someone else. Only one nomination is permitted for each nominee.

The honor consists of an award plaque to be presented at the Society’s annual meeting awards dinner in June 2010 (date TBD). The award recipient will also receive travel and hotel accommodations (not to exceed five nights) to attend the annual meeting. In the case of multiple authors, only one person will receive travel and hotel accommodations.

The award recipient is selected by the Society’s Advocacy and Public Outreach Core Committee (APOCC). The committee will give weight to entries that demonstrate thorough research, accurate reporting, originality and contribute to the public understanding of endocrinology.

General eligibility requirements:

Entries for the 2010 award must be:

  • first published between March 1, 2009 and February 28, 2010;
  • intended for, and available to, the general public; and
  • in English (or include an English translation).

A nominee must be the author of the submitted article. In the case of collaborative efforts, those involved must determine who is or are the nominee(s). The author must be an employee of: a print or electronic publication; a broadcast or cable station or network; or be a freelance journalist.

A nominee may submit only one entry. A series may be judged as one entry if each segment was identified at the time of publication as being part of the series.

Submission requirements:

Nominations may be made by anyone. To self-nominate, please submit:

  • three copies of information requested on the nomination form;
  • three copies of the article;
  • three audio cassettes, CDs, DVDs, or VHS NTSC videotapes of a broadcast report, with six transcripts; and
  • three copies of an English translation, if the original is not in English.

People nominating work produced by others must submit one copy of a print or electronic article with sufficient information to identify its source and author(s). The Endocrine Society will contact the author(s) and request the materials listed above, if he/she/they wish the nomination to go forward.

Nominations must be received by The Endocrine Society by March 2, 2010.
The award notification will be made on March 29, 2010.
