Dr. Sawin enjoyed a long career as a physician and clinical investigator at the Veterans Administration (VA) Hospital in Boston, and later as a senior administrator with the VA in Washington, D.C. His research focused on clinical thyroid disease, with a special interest in hypothyroidism and thyroid function with aging. He was a member of The Endocrine Society for over 34 years, and co-launched the Society’s archive/history initiative.
