Bylaws and Strategic Plan
|
The Endocrine Society's Bylaws and Strategic Plan are available on this web page (see links at right). The Bylaws are revised periodically by a vote of the membership. The Strategic Plan, parts of which are summarized below, is approved by the Council, which is the Society's governing body. Mission To advance excellence in endocrinology and promote its essential role as an integrative force in scientific research and medical practice. Strategic Directions and Strategies Direction I: Scientific and Clinical Excellence The Endocrine Society will provide the highest quality scientific and clinical knowledge and information to support the field. Direction II: Far-reaching Scientific and Clinical Impact The Endocrine Society’s influence will extend collaboratively, globally and broadly across all biomedical science and medicine. Direction III: Commitment to Trainees and Young Professionals The Endocrine Society will create a dynamic, compelling environment to attract and nurture trainees and young professionals. Direction IV: Expansive Influence The Endocrine Society will build unprecedented public and political support for the practice and science of endocrinology. Direction V: Capacity to Act The Endocrine Society will maintain its strong financial footing while increasing its efficiency and enhancing its capacity to thrive in a rapidly changing environment. Vision for the Field of Endocrinology Endocrinology will be widely accepted as the fundamental science of molecular, cellular, and systems communication that underpins human health and disease. It will be recognized as an interdisciplinary scientific and clinical specialty that integrates basic and clinical research with patient care. It will define the ways in which the body’s communication systems signal organ coordination, function and dysfunction. Endocrinology will continue to emphasize the integrative nature of research and health care across the spectrum of translational medicine. Endocrine research and practice will become a global enterprise characterized by international collaborations and cooperation. Alarming increases in diabetes mellitus, obesity, and the multiple endocrine and metabolic disorders of aging will require much greater numbers of well-trained clinical practitioners. Physician groups, patient groups, and the public will increasingly recognize the endocrinologist as a critical element of good health care and disease prevention. The growing recognition of endocrinology’s fundamental role in the future of science and medicine will make it a compelling field for young researchers and medical students. Vision for The Endocrine Society The Endocrine Society will be the leading organization for scientists and physicians involved in the study of hormones and metabolism, molecular, cellular and systems communication and related fields. Acknowledged as the foremost authority for scientific and clinical leadership and innovation, the Society will continue to pioneer basic science and discovery and clinical care that lead to enhanced treatment and cures for endocrine diseases. The Society’s unique strength reflects a synergy among its diverse membership of basic researchers, clinical investigators, and physicians in practice. As a leader in fostering this synergy internationally, Society programs and services will emphasize the integration of the field and the importance of basic research and its translation to patient care. The Society will be a leader in shaping policy affecting research and patient care, closely coordinating with domestic and international partners. The Society will enhance its efforts both to advocate for increased funding for biomedical research and to ensure that the work of its clinicians is appropriately valued by health care systems. The Society will also be widely recognized for its excellent patient and public information programs through the Hormone Foundation. The Endocrine Society will solidify and expand its reputation for excellent journals, meetings, and educational programs. Students, trainees, and young professionals will be attracted to the Society by its vibrant programs which will provide opportunities to work at the cutting edge of research and practice.
